HOW TO FOLD A FITTED SHEET

Originally created for live performance at Bivy in Anchorage, Alaska, 'How to fold a fitted sheet' evokes nostalgia for the past simultaneously with anticipation of possible futures. Harmonium and flute converge with text to create an immersive, dynamic set of soundscapes which unfold a series of images-- messy sheets, folded laundry, ghostly rabbits, rabbity ghosts. These images repeat and drape into one another. Embedded throughout the piece are instructions for how to fold a fitted sheet-- haven't you always wondered the best way? Inspired by a print which hung in the artist’s childhood bedroom depicting two rabbits accompanied by the phrase 'rabbits do not know what they are,' this piece holds questions about what we carry forward from our past and how we fold and unfold our futures.

The phrase comes from the marginalia of Jack Spicer's poem 'Partington Ridge' which is reprinted with permission from Wesleyan University Press in the chapbook.

The audio chapbook is available from Flag Day Recordings, the tape and book bundle includes a handbound artist book with vellum pages and blind embossed printing as well as digital download.
